CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES

FAMILIES INVOLVED TOGETHER (FIT)

The time has come for parents of youth with psychiatric and emotional needs to join together for support, education, information and advocacy training!

Families Involved Together (FIT) was initiated in 1995 with N.Y.S. Office of Mental Health Reinvestment funds. Every parent needs someone to talk with. But, parents with special needs children in their homes have greater challenges to face.  The FIT Program has been created to assist parents with teaching, setting goals and supporting their child with psychiatric and emotional needs.

 F I T helps families to:

  • become empowered
  • have stronger relationships
  • work toward solid, attainable goals
  • build self confidence
  • provide structure
  • understand and learn more about special needs youth
  • have fun

The FIT Program also provides parents with the opportunity to help others as well as receive help.  Your family will gain support from experienced family members who have navigated the system in helping parents to develop a strong voice in determining their own family’s needs.  There is also continuous one-on-one support and guidance by a Family Advocate as well as advocacy services to help with interactions at school, social services, medical appointments and other services.   The FIT Program is a creative and innovative sharing of resources to provide services to children and their families.

On 2002, FIT received the "2002 Excellence in Resiliency Award for the Clinton County Fireside Chats" from Families Together in NYS, Inc.
