The Department of Transportation requires employer compliance for the following industries:
- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (including self-employed drivers)
- Federal Aviation Administration
- Federal Railroad Administration
- Federal Transit Administration
- Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration
- United States Coast Guard
Employers must provide the following:
- Written policy
- Supervisor training (varies on length/frequency between administrations - call us for your regulatory requirements or check the D.O.T. website)
- Employee education
- Referral information for Substance Abuse Professionals
- Drug and alcohol testing:
- Pre-employment
- Random
- Reasonable Suspicion
- Post-accident
- Return-to-Duty (if employee is not immediately terminated)
- Follow-up (if employee is not immediately terminated or if you are carrying out a schedule already in place by a SAP on a new hire)
